Hotel Information

History

The Cross Lanes dates back to the late Victorian era when it was built as a private house. Its name in Welsh was Maes y Nant, which translated means house by a stream.

The Oak panelling in the front hall is Jacobean, dating back to about 1620. Together with the wooden staircase it was acquired from a grand old house, Emral Hall at the nearby village of Worthenbury, and carefully restored at Maes y Nant in 1935.

In 1959 Maes y Nant was sold and converted to a hotel. Many of the original features and homely atmosphere are preserved to this day. Our six acres of beautiful gardens and grounds provide a truly wonderful setting for weddings, wedding receptions and other parties and events, whatever time of the year.

A wealth of local attractions on our doorstep

The BEST WESTERN Cross Lanes Hotel is a perfect base for visiting the historic Roman city of Chester and the many castles, stately homes and gardens of North Wales and Cheshire, including the nearby National Trust properties of Erddig Hall (right of page) and Chirk Castle.

Bangor on Dee Racecourse is just a few country miles away and the stunning countryside of North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire is all within easy reach.

A drive along the course of the River Dee will delight you with host of attractions from Chester right through to its source at Bala Lake. On the way you can see the historic and award winning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which carries the Llangollen Canal - a wonderful attraction in its own right; the town of Llangollen in a beautiful setting, with the Horseshoe Pass just a couple of miles away; the Llangollen Steam Railway, which takes you along the Dee Valley to Carrog - one of the most stunning railway routes in Britain. If you don't take the train, your can drive through the valley on either side of the river.

An ideal base for business meetings and functions

The Hotel is situated just two miles from the Wrexham Industrial Estate making it the perfect venue for business meetings and functions as well as providing overnight accommodation for visitors. There are two ground floor meeting rooms, both open directly onto the grounds making them ideal for leadership courses, team building exercises and training.

The perfect country hotel for celebrations

Our Garden Suite has long been one of the area's most popular venues for social functions such as weddings and dinners. It opens out to extensive lawned gardens making it ideal for summer days and evenings. The main lawn is large enough to take a large marquee.

The hotel boasts easy access and plenty of car parking space.

Relaxed, charming and friendly are the words often used to describe The Lanes Bar Restaurant. Here you can enjoy quality food cooked simply with fresh local ingredients and value for money prices. All wines listed have been personally tasted and selected with many wines offered by the glass.

Enjoy a drink or meal on the patio overlooking our beautiful gardens in summer or sit by a roaring log fire in winter. Whatever the weather or the occasion you can be sure of a warm welcome.
